Is this whole heat sinked ram issue for real?
I just ordered the top o line, Macpro. but with base ram as usual onoly to see the FB- blah blah heat sinked, get nothing else or your computer will become the wind tunnel of hell, Is this true.
Should I get a 2gig base and try to work up from there?

OMG estimated shipping date Sept 12th, they gotta be kidding!
Their estimated shipping date is on the safe side that it's how long it'll take if it has to be shipped from Mars. I ordered two BT mighty mice the day it came out and the shipping date was said to be some time late Auguest, but it arrived two days later ( late July).

Duh, I mean what advantage would 64-bit processors & software over 32-bit?
64bit OS & software on a 64 bit processor (especially a dual core) is much better at multitasking, for one.

I do not use a continuously-connected Time Machine. I keep my TM backups on a drive that connects via USB and it normally resides in my fire-proof safe. TM is only active once a week (or so) when I decide to backup.
I know, all the Mac users who work their machines 24/7 are probably aghast at the idea of not letting TM have 24/7 wireless access. But maybe my technique will prevent the type of TM loss mentioned above... so long as I don't let Sophos run when my backups are going on??

Yup, I didn't read the whole thing like most everyone :P. Yes its true that Apple is targeting Mac App Store as the preferred method, but according to the article they will also be distributing retail versions of Lion on Disc since some people are running an older version of OSX, and to those who don't have a high speed internet connection..
Conclusion, everyones happy, if you prefer discs, you can buy one, if you prefer digital download then you can download it..

well I called back and upped the ram to 2 gigs which is what i consider the base really.
I just didnt want to go running around looking for ram to get to work.
Crucial doesnt have anything for the MacPro yet and I was fooled by the strange new words and the "you will have heat problems if you buy other ram from other makers that dont have heat sinks!"
What the??
So I feel for it and bit another 300 offa my wallet.
figure that with this base i can then search at a somewhat leisurely pace to get the other 4 gigs kits that will fit in the remaining slots.
Please someone tell me it was a smart move?

Cry me a river if you're using Yonah. Unless you need 64-bit or are encoding video/audio 24/7 on your laptop the gains aren't paramount.

From what i'm reading you won't be able to take full advantage of the processing power til santa rosa comes out (early 2007). And at that point it will use more power reducing the hight bat. life expectations. And the low voltage chips aren't due out til that time too. So after reading this, i say if you really want a good merom working computer, get one in jan. Or forget the wait and get one now. But sept doesn't look like a good time to buy then.

Studios will have to wait a see that the 'relaxed' DRM license Apple is proposing for 9.99$ is better than the others and people will realize that by buying 'in mass' so other Studios will come in... and leave Amazon Unbox... well, in a box !
* iPod nano second gen. Larger screen, new enclosure. 4, 6, 8 gigs. May be a few more surprise in the nano (radio ?, movies playable ? we don't on this one, isn't it ?)
* iPod Video full screen size

Even Apple admits that the majority of their revenue comes from iGadgets, not Macs. That is, the majority of Apple's revenue comes from devices that cost less than $500. I'm not exactly sure why Apple put those "vents" in the plate, they sure don't go through the whole panel, though. The compartment to the top is indeed closed apart from a few tiny holes.
There's not a lot of venting on the back (nor ability to install a fan in push mode), so it's likely as a means of moving additional heat out of the PCIe zone, and pull it out through the PSU (not as hot when mixed with cool air drawn in around from the front of the case past the ODD's, so it shouldn't be hot enough to cause damage to the PSU).
Just a thought anyway... ;)

I don't know anything about this product in particular (other than the reassurance from two people so far that it's well made :) ) but well made anti-malware software has essentially no performance impact at all. I.e. with Microsoft's security essentials there's an average of zero percent CPU use, and ditto for Avira or the like.
On the other hand, some of these giant bloated programs are pretty scary LOL!

I was kinda surprised that teh Core 2 Duo is only 10-15% faster then the Core Duo, but im not sure why im surprised. i wasnt really sure of the differences at the time..

I do not believe that Apple should wait to announce their new 64 bit systems. They should (and could) give promos of complete overhauls of their entire Mac lineup. (Final propaganda for iMac Ultra)
I think that Apple should concentrate on getting lots of switchers. Apple probably care about us old "maccies", because, of course, it is very rare for a mac user to change to using the Operating System That Must Not Be Named.

More and more cloud services coming to consumers offering GB's a data for fre or a nominal price. More and more ISPs are capping data bandwidth at 250GB r less. Will we not reach a point where we will not have access to our files due to a cap? Don't cloud providers have it in their interest to abolish caps if they want our information on our servers?
The world is becoming more connected but ISPs are closing down cloud innovation with arbitrary caps. I find it better just to buy a huge HDD that I can put on the shelf if I cannot access my data. Case in point, I will eventually have 250GB on Carbonite. If I need to do a one time restore, it will cause me to use all of my bandwidth.
