Why would they give the Macbook that but leave the iMac with the original Core Duo? Doesn't make sense. I would think all three would get it or just the Macbook Pro.

No one said the iMac won't get the Conroe Core 2 Duo chip; just that MBP and MB will get Merom--I also expect the Mac Mini to receive a dual-core Merom. WWDC is for developers; Paris, for more consumer-oriented things. I think the big announcement at Paris will be that all of Apple's lineup will be 64 bit with a simultaneous unveiling of updated iMacs, Mac Minis, MBPs, and MBs--though I still wonder about a new form factor for the MBPs. If not at Paris, then I expect a new form factor with the debut of the Santa Rosa chipset and Leopard next Spring.

It's naive to assume that Apple won't use MobileMe data in the future to serve you ads.

Given the [lack of acceptable] performance of the current service, all of these things are just going to be painful to use. If they can devote some more bandwidth to them, I could see it being a hit.

i am hoping that the new datacentre will improve the current problems that we mobileme uses are experience.

and i yes those are a great idea
    free mobileme with iads
    paying users no ads
one can hope, i don't want ads in my mail, i have yahoo and gmail for that.. :)

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I remember when Napster and Rio laughed at the iPod and iTunes, and 5 years later.

The ipod almost just caught up to rio in terms of audio.

I was wondering what took them so long to redesign this monstrous beast MacPro lol

It's very powerful and expensive but it was too big... Considering all other Apple Products

I don't see how you can say that. None the less how anyone can confidently answer this question.

You arrive at 288 by multiplying 48/2 * (9+3), but that is assuming multiplication is the implied operator.

The way the equation is written, this question simply does not make sense. Parenthesis or something similar are needed to make this equation solvable.

You say you are fluent in mathematics, etc, but fluency requires proper syntax, which the equation simply does not have. If a professional gave me this problem to solve I would call them an idiot.

Multiplication is always the implied operator for an equation in that form. If it is something other the multiplication is must be specified. 2*2=(2)(2).

    balamw & dukebound85:
You guys are making too many assumptions.

Following your thought process, the original post is not properly written then?

I don't think they are. They are (correctly) saying that if you solve the problem as written without making any assumptions you come up with 288 as the one, and only, correct answer.

Also, Balamw I posted almost exactly what you just said (post above this). See post 179.

if a villain needs to go through a room where he placed a trap, can he temporarily disable it?

Traps and monsters don't harm the villain.

You guys responded to Ravenvii saying that Traps and monsters don't harm the villain, but in the OP, in the Q&A's, you wrote:

    - can the villain/monster fall into the traps?

Villain (a stupid one): yes, Monsters: No (since they don't move).

Was that just being funny, or is it a conflicting rule?

    Thanks!

I want a new iPod (possible) and I need a new phone (no chance!)

It's going to be the iTMS movie store, I know it. Bo-oring Zzzzzzzz...... I have 250 videos on my iPod, all ripped by my own fair hands, I don't need Apple's help. So please bring on the good stuff!

Even if ARM DID get ahead, it wouldn't take Intel long to catch up... Then what?

ARM have been ahead in mobile for well over a decade. Intel haven't caught up yet, admitiely some of that is due to Intel not really trying.

Apple brings out the 'App Store'.. everyone copies them....It's generic.

except the appstore is/was nothing new. They just took what handango website was doing and made it into a convenient app instead of going to a website.

There will NOT be a tablet - there is ZERO market for it.
A device already exists that does the work of a tablet PC - its called an iBook.

IF you want a really cheap tablet - try pen and paper.

There maybe "ZERO" interest in a Tablet PC for the M$ implementation of it.

There were MP3 players before the iPod, but Apple made it easy and cool to have one.

The original Toshiba Libretto had a decent following in its day.

The iBook is a close also ran IMHO. Given the comments here there is a desire for something the size of the 10" Sony sub-notebook that would give users the option of a touch screen and keyboard. In particular, if it were very near or under the $1000 price point.

I've been poking along with a 3GS since they came out. Really want to switch to Verizon. This rumor puts people like me in a serious pickle: keep waiting and waiting and waiting for iPhone 5 to come out this year, if it even does it all, or grab an iPhone 4 now - a phone that has been out for nearly a year - and get burned in a couple of months by a surprise iPhone 5 announcement in June?

If the Keynote is on the first day of the Expo that would be the 12th.

The iPod offere ends on the 16th, the end of the Paris Expo.

You might have to place your order online as I expect they wouldn't be in stores by then, but you [we] should be all set.

I wouldn't hold my breath, the Back to School iPod promo has always been a bait to help clear out old inventory. They won't make it available to buy, online or off, until after the promo ends.

there is no rational reason to argue that the metric system is not superior to the imperial in every form and shape.
one is intuitive, consistent and accurate, the other is random.

the 'feel' argument is honestly ludicrous beacause mostly everyone has a better 'feel' for the system the grew up with. it's just a matter of habit.

the only reasons we haven't switched yet is
    a) economic, as conversion would cost some money -but it stimulates the economy!-
    b) misplaced patriotism, as anything done in the US 'must' be better then what is done elsewhere because it is 'american'

those who oppose switching i think are underestimate people's ability to adapt. a well organized switch would take half a generation and cause little to no problems, in my opinion. plus it would give the usual suspects something more to complain about, once the conspiracy theory of the day becomes passe' :D

How does having the PSU on the bottom keep it cool?...

Hot air rises, so the heat generated by the PSU will just rise and fill up the case.

Unless I'm missing something or the laws of physics have changed in recent years?

As relevant as saying Apple sells more phones than Android does . . . oh wait, Android isn't a phone seller/manufacturer.

Well Apple doesn't sell its software for use on any other phones (or computers), so how is it competing with software-installed numbers on all hardware types? If people were shifting from Samsung or Motorola phones with Apple iOS to Samsung or Motorola phones with Android, than Apple would be losing in the software market.

This has always be a case of apples to broccoli (yeah, it's not even a fruit versus fruit comparison).

That is pure, Apple style right there. Of course, I don't picture this phone being a flip phones. I believe (and hope) flip phones are on their way out. They were a fad, but aren't as practical as candy bar phones. They have more moving parts that can break and take longer to answer, especially if your hands are full or you're driving your car. (All you flip-phone people out there, before you start lashing out in defense, just accept those statements as truth, because you know they are.) Nothing beats hearing your phone, looking down, and pushing a button to start talking. As far as accidently calling people, I lock my phone with the push of a button and don't have any problems.

I am surpise no one said anything in the rest of the pages about this but I am just going to say What...

I hate the candy bar phones and I would never get the apple iPhone is it was not a flip phone.

Reason I like the flip phone. When talking on it it a closer to the size of a normal phone so it is easy to hold and talk on. Close it and it smaller than you candy bar phone in demition and fits in my pocket better.

I dont have to deal with a keygaurd and forgetting to put it on and I dont have to deal with turn it off. Just close my phone and every thing is covered.
I find it EASIER to answer them. Phone rings I glance down at the outside LCD and flip the phone open (all with one hand) and the call is answer (answer on flip) or I hit one of the side buttons to turn off the ringer all of this with out have to look at the phone. I can turn off the ringer with out taking it out of my pocket (cannt do that on a candy bar). Compare to a candy bar phone I would glace down at the LCD to see who is and then I would have to hit the talk button to answer it. yet again the flip phone wins

And to top all that off the main LCD and keys are ALWAYS protected when the phone is not in use (candy bar nope).

So far is Flip phone 3 candy bar 0. I like the flip phones long before they where a fad and I will contine to like them after the fad wears off. I didnt go back to candy bar when they where back in again. I stuck with the flip phone and contine to like the flip phone for the advatages I listed above.

RIM is going down, in 2011 Apple must release the iPhone on Sprint and T-Mobile, then in 2012 launch the iPhone 5 World Edition and take over the world. They may need to build a few new factories too for the iPhone mini.

$2,499 standard price of Mac Pro ($2,299 for Education)

$2,124 is the lowest you can configure the Mac Pro ($1,962 for Education)

To get it that low, you have to drop the processors from 2.66GHz to 2GHz and and the hard drive from 250GB to 160GB

Airport Extreme & Bluetooth 2.0 still not standard

Weak graphics card standard (GeForce 7300, ugh)

    and as a sidenote:

MacBook Pro & MacBook processors untouched

     iMac untouched

iPod product line grows more stale by the day

If buying a different brand of phone means you wont feel the need to come on these boards telling everyone how bad Apple are, then you definitely wont be the only one celebrating....

I've never heard of this company -- are they reputable, does anyone know? I've heard all sorts of stories abut these types of things being spyware or some such, don't want to pollute my Mac with any of that garbage!

    GARBAGE . . . . . NO.....

Sophos are one of the most respected AV suppliers in the world. Most home users have never heard of them though as they ONLY supply High-End AV solutions to Big businesses. The company I work for uses SOPHOS and has done for quite a few years..... the Windows client has a tiny footprint compared to McAfee, Norton / Symantec etc..... i.e. it slows your machine down FAR less than all the other solutions.

I think it is a little unfair to compare this to garbageware free PC solutions, before you call something garbage it is perhaps sensible to research it first. I run the Corporate version of Sophos on my MacPro, MacMini and MacBook Pro, as well as on my Windows Laptop and Media Centre PC. Best solution out there in my own (humble) opinion - and no, I don't work for Sophos, just use their products in a live, corporate environment on a daily basis.

So I guess we'll all just send you our AT&T Internet Bills when we go over their newly implemented data usage caps?

Absolutely. Send 'em right over and I'll know precisely what to do with 'em.

Seriously, I don't see why anyone would object. This is merely another option for getting OS X. It adds to our choices. This is not right for you? Use the traditional method. Nobody loses.
